Pre School

pre_school_new2 Our Pre-School service is available for children from 3 years. We have two morning sessions running together the Busy Bears (downstairs) & the Busy Bees (upstairs) from  9:00 am -12:00 pm. Our Curriculum We are following the Aistear Curriculum here at Clann Aire. Aistear is the early childhood Curriculum Framework for children from birth to six years, here in Ireland. Aistear is a play-based curriculum that encourages children’s learning through the children’s own individual idea’s and interests. It is based on four main themes which help us plan and provide fun learning experiences for the children, enabling the children to grow into competent and confident learners. The four themes of Aistear are: • Well-Being, • Identity and Belonging, • Communication and • Exploring and thinking In order for us to do this we will be asking parents to communicate with us to help us to get to know your child. We cannot stress the importance of this communication enough. From our experience “A Family Wall” and a “Child’s Journal” charting your child’s interests, works great within the pre-school room, it’s a great way to get the children communicating with both staff and other children, it gives each child a sense of identity, belonging and inclusion within the room. If any parent has any interests or skills that would benefit the children they would be more than welcome to come and share with the children. We really value parental involvement and we appreciate and encourage it always. Our Daily Routine Our daily routine will include; • Greeting time- the children will be greeted at the door and will interact with staff and other children through conversation • Planning Time-The children will have time to express where they would like to play and what they would like to do or play with • Free play- to play freely around the room and make choices about what they want to play and experience • Tidy-Up Time • Outside time – the children get the experience of playing outside every day. If it is raining heavily the covered outdoor area is available to the children. We also have outdoor suits for wet weather that the children wear with their wellies to gain experience of the other areas on those damp days • Snack time- the children and staff will sit down, eat and chat together • Large/small group time- the children would experience learning opportunities in either large or small groups Child Paths We are using a communication tool involving childcare software called Child Paths. They have partnered with some very experienced childcare professionals to develop a platform so we can communicate quicker and smarter with parents giving you a greater insight into your child’s day through learning and development. We use tablets in every room to document your child’s day i.e. time of arrival, departure, activities ,food ,sleep, toileting, photos etc. Through an app on your phone you have access to all of the above throughout your child’s day. The annual subscription is approx €60. You are not obliged to use this program, but we will be continuously recoding your child’s data on Child paths. Child Paths was designed so parents and guardians can engage in conversation about their child’s day. Having an insight be it through photos or communication on the app helps in conversations with your child by discussing their day or showing them the photos you received. Uploading photos to your child’s profile allows staff to interact and communicate better with the children as they can create conversations which are child lead from the photos parents upload over the weekend etc. Any information and data that we collect will be for our record keeping use and will be treated under our confidentiality policy, which we legally have to share with the childcare inspectors. From a security perspective, the information that travels from the tablets to the servers is encrypted, and the servers are held in Ireland with one of the world’s leading hosting providers Amazon. The software is protected by a username and password to access the information. Parents obviously only have access to their own child’s account. Additional security information can be provided on request from Child Paths. Each family is give a Pre-School Handbook at the beginning of each year with all of the relevant information required for the child's year in Pre- School.
